Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

  • send your request online via the Klinik system
  • via the NHS App
  • hand in the right hand side of your prescription ticked with what you want in via our post box.
  • ask your pharmacy to put in the request for you

We do not take repeat prescription requests over the phone or email.

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 5 to 7 working days after you have ordered it.

You may choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • through Klinik
  • at your GP practice
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Dispensary

The dispensary is open at our Tutshill Surgery Monday to Friday 8:30am to 1pm and Monday and Friday afternoons 2pm to 5:30pm.

If you live over one mile from a pharmacy you can register for our dispensary service.  Please ask at reception for details.

Dispensing patients can also sign up for the practice repeat dispensing service, where patients who are taking certain long term medication will be authorised for periods of six to twelve months. Your prescriptions will be held by our dispensary and there is no need to submit your repeat request.  Please discuss this with your GP or our dispenser if you are interested in this service.

Repeat dispensing service

We offer patients who are taking certain long term medication a repeat dispensing service, whereby your repeat medication will be authorised for periods of six to twelve months. This is also called a 'batch'.

Your prescriptions will be held by your choice of pharmacy, where you can collect your medication without having to return to the surgery every month to submit your repeat request.

Please discuss this with a GP or pharmacist if you are interested in this service.

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review. If your pharmacy notifies you a review is needed, please complete the section under 'Medication related' on Klinik.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses through the Common Ailments Scheme such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
