CANCELLATION OF FLU CLINIC
PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO DELIVERY PROBLEMS BEING EXPERIENCED BY THE MANUFACTURER OF THE VACCINE, OUR FLU CLINIC PLANNED FOR SATURDAY, 11TH SEPTEMBER 2021 HAS NOW BEEN CANCELLED. PATIENTS WILL BE CONTACTED WITH ALTERNATIVE ARRANGEMENTS AS SOON AS WE HAVE FURTHER INFORMATION.
Shortage of Blood Bottles
We have been informed by the Welsh Government there is a UK wide shortage of blood bottles due to a problem with the manufacturer.
ONLY ESSENTIAL blood tests will be booked for the foreseeable future. Please note if you have a blood test already booked with the GP, they will be reviewing whether these are essential and may be in contact with you to cancel your appointment.
This shortage is temporary and expected to last up to 3 months. This does mean that some tests for patients will be postponed until the national stocks recover.
Those patients most vulnerable at high risk will still receive their blood tests, however routine blood tests will have to wait.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused by this, and bear with us as we work to provide the best health care we can for our patients.
If you are visiting the Practice currently, we would be grateful if you could wear your own face mask to help reduce the spread of the Coronavirus. We have also provided hand sanitiser at the front of the surgery. We would be grateful if you could use on entering and leaving the building.
The Practice is here to support you through the current pandemic that is affecting so many of us. We understand that you have received a letter from Welsh Government about the importance of you taking extra steps to avoid catching coronavirus. We understand that you may be anxious about that and wanted to let you know that if you have any healthcare needs you can contact the Practice by telephone or eConsult.

COVID-19 VACCINE UPDATE
As part of the Pathfinder Pilot COVID-19 Immunisation Scheme, Vauxhall Practice began Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccinations in 07/01/2021. All Eligible patients were invited in accordance with the Joint Committee of Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) priority groups which are listed below:
Residents in a Care Home for older adults and their carers
Over 80s and frontline Health and social Care workers
Patients will then be called in order of JCVI priority groups as follows:
All those 75 years of age and over
All those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals
All those 65 years of age and over
All individuals aged 18* years to 64 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality and relevant carers**
All those 60 years of age and over
All those 55 years of age and over
All those 50 years of age and over
*The JCVI recommendation is from 16 years of age but AstraZeneca vaccine is only authorised for use in those aged 18 years of age
**Those who are eligible for a carer's allowance, or those who are the sole or primary carer of an elderly or disabled person who is at increased risk of COVID-19 mortality and therefore clinically vulnerable. Those clinically vulnerable to COVID-19 include children with severe neuro-disabilities, those who are designated Clinically Extremely vulnerable (CEV), adults who have underlying health conditions and those who need care because of advanced age. Eligible carers should be vaccinated in priority group 6.

RESCUE PACKS FOR ASTHMA AND COPD PATIENTS
We are aware there has been misleading information on Social Media regarding asking your doctor/practice pharmacist for rescue packs.
*WE ARE NOT SUPPLYING “JUST IN CASE” COURSES OF STEROID AND ANTIBIOTICS (KNOWN AS RESCUE PACKS) TO ANYONE WHO IS NOT ALREADY HAVING THEM AS PART OF THEIR USUAL TREATMENT BEFORE THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC*
We know that people with underlying respiratory conditions like asthma and COPD will be worried about how the Coronavirus might impact them. Here is some advice:
Use your inhalers as you have been advised by your healthcare professional to manage your underlying condition as best as possible.
Visit www.asthma.org.uk/advice/inhalervideos/ watch the video links -even if you are sure you know how to use your inhaler.
Contact your GP practice BY TELEPHONE or ECONSULT if you develop a worsening of your current asthma or COPD symptoms.
Phone 111 if these are severe, you think they are coronavirus, or we are not open.
Lastly, please look after yourself. Isolate if you have been advised to. Distance yourself from others whenever possible. Reach out for help and accept help with groceries and collecting prescriptions. Use official channels like www.gov.uk or the Aneurin Bevan Health Board website to obtain your information.
You are now able to contact the Practice online for medical advice, administrative requests e.g. fit notes, GP letters and test results, and search for trusted NHS self-help advice.
My Surgery App
You are now also able to contact the Practice online via My Surgery App. My Surgery App allows patients to complete forms, request medication and check symptoms via the NHS Symptom Checker. The app is also linked to other online services including My Health Online (MHOL) and eConsult, making it the hub for all our online services.
